every time; whenever

たびに says that each time one thing happens, another regularly follows. Attach it to a verb's dictionary form or a noun with の. It describes a repeated pairing of events.

• この写真しゃしんを見みるたびに、学生時代がくせいじだいを思おもい出だす。

  Kono shashin o miru tabi ni, gakusei jidai o omoidasu.

  Every time I see this photo, I remember my student days.

• 彼かれは出張しゅっちょうのたびに、お土産みやげを買かってくる。

  Kare wa shucchou no tabi ni, omiyage o katte kuru.

  He buys a souvenir every time he goes on a business trip.
