intend to, plan to

Dictionary form plus つもりだ expresses a firm personal intention. The negative ないつもりだ means you intend not to do something. It is used for the speaker's own plans, not for guessing about others.

  Natsuyasumi ni kuni e kaeru tsumori desu.

  I intend to go back to my country during summer vacation.

• タバコはもう吸すわないつもりです。
