nothing / no one (with a negative verb)

A question word plus mo with a negative verb means none at all: nani mo tabemasen means I eat nothing. The verb must be negative. Dare mo, doko mo, and nani mo all follow this pattern.

Examples

• 今朝けさは何なにも食たべませんでした。

  Kesa wa nani mo tabemasen deshita.

  I ate nothing this morning.

• 教室きょうしつにはだれもいません。

  Kyoushitsu ni wa dare mo imasen.

  There is no one in the classroom.
