からといって rejects a conclusion that seems to follow from a reason. Attach it to a plain-form clause. It usually pairs with a negative ending (わけではない, とは限らない), warning against a hasty assumption.

Examples

  • からない

    Takai kara to itte, ii to wa kagiranai.

    Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's good.

  • から

    Nihon ni sunde iru kara to itte, keigo ga kanpeki na wake de wa nai.

    Just because you live in Japan doesn't mean your keigo is perfect.
