to receive

もらう describes receiving from the receiver's point of view. The giver is marked with に or から. The humble equivalent いただく is used when the giver is a social superior.

Examples

• 私わたしは先生せんせいに辞書じしょをもらいました。

  Watashi wa sensei ni jisho o moraimashita.

  I received a dictionary from my teacher.

• 友達ともだちにコンサートのチケットをもらいました。

  Tomodachi ni konsaato no chiketto o moraimashita.

  I got a concert ticket from a friend.
