to have someone do something for you

Te-form plus もらう describes receiving the benefit of someone's action, often after asking for it. The person who does the action is marked with に. The humble version ていただく is used toward superiors.

Examples

• 先生せんせいに作文さくぶんを直なおしてもらいました。

  Sensei ni sakubun o naoshite moraimashita.

  I had my teacher correct my essay.

• 兄あにに自転車じてんしゃを修理しゅうりしてもらいました。

  Ani ni jitensha o shuuri shite moraimashita.

  I had my older brother fix my bicycle.
