this one / that one / that one over there

Kore points to something near the speaker, sore to something near the listener, and are to something far from both. They stand alone as pronouns and do not attach to a noun. The question word in the series is dore (which one).

Examples

• これは何なんですか。

  Kore wa nan desu ka.

  What is this?

• あれは私わたしの車くるまです。

  Are wa watashi no kuruma desu.

  That over there is my car.
