A is more ... than B

Yori marks the thing being compared against: A wa B yori takai means A is more expensive than B. The adjective does not change form; Japanese has no comparative endings. B yori can also come first for emphasis.

  Hikouki wa densha yori hayai desu.

  Planes are faster than trains.

• 今日きょうは昨日きのうより寒さむいです。

  Kyou wa kinou yori samui desu.

  Today is colder than yesterday.
