good at / bad at

Jouzu (skilled) and heta (unskilled) are na-adjectives, and the skill takes ga. Avoid calling yourself jouzu; for your own abilities, tokui is more natural. Both follow the same pattern as suki and kirai.

Examples

• 田中たなかさんは料理りょうりが上手じょうずです。

  Tanaka san wa ryouri ga jouzu desu.

  Tanaka is good at cooking.

• 私わたしは歌うたが下手へたです。

  Watashi wa uta ga heta desu.

  I am bad at singing.
