do not do (strong prohibition)

Dictionary form plus な is a strong prohibition: do not do it. Like the imperative, it is blunt and limited to warnings, signs, emergencies, and very casual speech among close friends. Do not confuse it with the softening sentence-final な of casual speech.

• ここに入はいるな。

  Koko ni hairu na.

  Do not enter here.

• 心配しんぱいするな。

  Shinpai suru na.

  Do not worry.
