for ... hours / minutes (duration)

Jikan after a number expresses duration in hours, distinguishing it from clock time: sanji is 3 o'clock but sanjikan is three hours. Durations take no particle and often pair with kakarimasu (it takes). Minutes of duration use fun or pun directly.

Examples

• 毎日まいにち八はち時間じかん働はたらきます。

  Mainichi hachijikan hatarakimasu.

  I work eight hours every day.

• 駅えきまで十五じゅうご分ふんかかります。

  Eki made juugofun kakarimasu.

  It takes fifteen minutes to the station.
