polite past (did / did not)

Replace masu with mashita for the polite past and with masen deshita for the polite negative past. These forms work for every verb once you know its masu stem. They are the standard way to talk about completed actions politely.

Examples

• 昨日きのう映画えいがを見みました。

  Kinou eiga o mimashita.

  I watched a movie yesterday.

• 宿題しゅくだいをしませんでした。

  Shukudai o shimasen deshita.

  I did not do my homework.
