at / in (place where an action happens)

De marks the place where an action takes place. Compare it with ni, which marks where something exists; de is used with action verbs like taberu, benkyou suru, and au. The place comes before de.

Examples

• 図書館としょかんで勉強べんきょうします。

  Toshokan de benkyou shimasu.

  I study at the library.

• レストランで昼ひるご飯はんを食たべました。

  Resutoran de hirugohan o tabemashita.

  I ate lunch at a restaurant.
