Demo begins a new sentence that contrasts with the previous one. Unlike ga, it cannot join two clauses inside one sentence; it always starts fresh. It is common in conversation.

• 雨あめが降ふっています。でも、出でかけます。

  Ame ga futte imasu. Demo, dekakemasu.

  It is raining. But I am going out.

• このかばんは高たかいです。でも、買かいます。

  Kono kaban wa takai desu. Demo, kaimasu.

  This bag is expensive. But I will buy it.
