i-adjectives: past and negative past

For the past of an i-adjective, drop i and add katta desu: tanoshii becomes tanoshikatta desu. The negative past is kunakatta desu. Never say takai deshita; the adjective itself changes, not the copula.

Examples

• 旅行りょこうは楽たのしかったです。

  Ryokou wa tanoshikatta desu.

  The trip was fun.

• テストは難むずかしくなかったです。

  Tesuto wa muzukashikunakatta desu.

  The test was not difficult.
