na-adjectives: basic and negative forms

Na-adjectives behave like nouns: they take desu for affirmative and ja arimasen for negative. Before a noun they need na: shizuka na machi (a quiet town). Examples include shizuka, kirei, genki, and yuumei.

Examples

• この町まちは静しずかです。

  Kono machi wa shizuka desu.

  This town is quiet.

• あの店みせはきれいじゃありません。

  Ano mise wa kirei ja arimasen.

  That shop is not clean.
