to become (a change of state)

Naru expresses change. With i-adjectives, drop i and add ku naru: atatakaku naru (become warm). With na-adjectives and nouns, add ni naru: genki ni naru, sensei ni naru.

Examples

• 天気てんきが暖あたたかくなりました。

  Tenki ga atatakaku narimashita.

  The weather has become warm.

• 妹いもうとは来年らいねん大学生だいがくせいになります。

  Imouto wa rainen daigakusei ni narimasu.

  My younger sister will become a university student next year.
