The ta form plus ri, repeated, lists representative actions without implying order or completeness, and the sentence ends with shimasu. It is the verb equivalent of the particle ya. Tense is shown only on the final shimasu.

Examples

• 週末しゅうまつは映画えいがを見みたり、買かい物ものをしたりします。

  Shuumatsu wa eiga o mitari, kaimono o shitari shimasu.

  On weekends I do things like watch movies and go shopping.

• 休やすみの日ひは本ほんを読よんだり、音楽おんがくを聞きいたりします。

  Yasumi no hi wa hon o yondari, ongaku o kiitari shimasu.

  On days off I read books, listen to music, and so on.
