go / come (somewhere) in order to do something

The masu stem of a verb plus ni plus a motion verb expresses purpose of movement: kai ni ikimasu means go to buy. With suru verbs, the noun alone can stand before ni, as in kaimono ni iku. The place is marked with e or ni as usual.

• デパートへ靴くつを買かいに行いきます。

  Depaato e kutsu o kai ni ikimasu.

  I'm going to the department store to buy shoes.

• 友達ともだちが日本にっぽんへ遊あそびに来きました。

  Tomodachi ga Nihon e asobi ni kimashita.

  My friend came to Japan for a visit.
